Here at Bump Boxes, it takes hours of research and testing to ensure that every single ingredient in each product is pregnancy-safe. In fact, we’ve learned a lot throughout the years by taking all the precautions to keep our Mamas safe.
With that being said, our purpose is to make Mom’s life easier. If you’re here, you’re probably concerned about the products that you are using. We pride ourselves on doing the research so Mom doesn’t have to but if you want the juicy details on pregnancy no-no’s… you’re in the right place.
RED-FLAG Ingredients
Retin-A, Retinol, and Retinyl Palmitate
I’ll be honest, this one tugs at my heartstrings. I’m a sucker for retinol-based products because dermatologists and Tik Tok gurus RAVE about the results with retinol. Although this may be a good product in itself, it isn’t safe for expecting Mamas wanting to protect their Bumps.
These Vitamin A derivatives can actually lead to negative birth defects and be dangerous for your baby.
If retinol is a skincare routine staple (like it is for me!), switch it out with one of our tried and true pregnancy-safe products:
- The Essentials Moroccan Argan Oil
- Mambino Organics Balancing Facial Mist
- Promise Radiant Glow Hydrating Face Cream
Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acids
Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acids are great acne remedies but bad for pregnancy. Many products that you find and probably use include a combination of these ingredients which can be extra harmful to your Bump. It’s best to avoid these during pregnancy.
We know that pregnancy comes with a lot of skin changes and ACNE. So, how do you fight that pesky pregnancy acne?
We have great alternative products that exclude harmful ingredients but are still extremely effective:
- Mambino Organics Overnight Blemish Spot Remedy
- Bella B Foaming Face Wash
- Previse Purify Hydrating Marine Algae Cleanser
Aluminum Chloride
Now, I’m sure you’re probably thinking, what products could I possibly be using that contain aluminum chloride?
The answer? Deodorant.
Deodorant is a product that most of us view as a product we can’t live without. I’m not saying you shouldn’t use deodorant during pregnancy, just be selective of products and make sure they exclude aluminum chloride.
Formaldehyde
This one is cringe-worthy. Formaldehyde is linked to fertility issues and miscarriage. And, yep, formaldehyde is in products sold everywhere. Think nail polish and hair care products. Formaldehyde is one ingredient you should certainly watch out for when you visit nail and hair salons for a little pampering.
Our fave formaldehyde-free products:
Fragrances
Products that have ingredient lists including “fragrances” use that word to hide other chemicals and ingredients that can be harmful to pregnancy. When in doubt, go fragrance-free!
The best smelling fragrance-free products:
- CariBBrew Coconut Latte Body Butter
- Glow Organics Energize Body Lotion
- Mambino Organics Moisture Me Nourishing Body Oil
